Sumoro LecharkoleSenior Guide / Northern Frontier
Sumoro Lecharkole (Mr. Small) was born near Samburu one day when his mother was tending her goats. He ran 8 km (5 miles) each way from Kiltamany, his remote village to West Gate School. It’s no surprise that he was school champion at marathon running. After school he worked at Save the Elephants (STE) research facility located in Samburu National Reserve, where he monitored and recorded elephant movement within the Samburu/Laikipia ecosystem. He was the senior guide at Elephant Watch Camp and joined Saruni Samburu when it opened in 2009 until 2013 when he became an independent Naturalist/Guide. He holds a silver level from Kenya Professional Safari Guides Association (KPSGA) and is currently studying wildlife management at Amboseli Institute for Education in Thika. If you are with him in Samburu, he will take you to visit his family in Kiltamany. He has a wife and four children.
